This web site is designed to be an introduction to Tae Kwon Do. It will answer the most common questions that parents have and share with you the experience of happy families already involved in our Tae Kwon Do schools. Most of all, it will explain in detail how Tae Kwon Do will improve your child's fitness, increase their self-esteem, improve their confidence, and sharpen their focus in such a powerful way that it will benefit them throughout their entire lives!

Please read on to find out how Tae Kwon Do can give your child the Winning Edge!
First of all, let's review the answers to some common questions that parents often have before getting their child involved in Tae Kwon Do.

Question #1: What is Tae Kwon Do and how is it different from other martial arts?
Tae Kwon Do is great for childrenThe different martial arts all originated in different countries thousands of years ago as forms of self-defense. For example, Karate comes from Japan, Kung Fu from China and Tae Kwon Do is native to Korea. In terms of martial art techniques, Tae Kwon Do emphasizes kicks more than other martial arts, making it ideal for improving your child's strength, balance, flexibility and endurance.

Question #2: At what age can children start?
Our experience has shown that children ages five and up will be able to take the greatest advantage from Tae Kwon Do classes. Though we do have children as young as three training here, they start in a class called Gym-Mini Kick It, before moving onto children's classes. Starting at age five, your child is eligible to participate in trial program, which allow our instructors to work with them one on one and evaluate their readiness for Tae Kwon Do classes. Our staff will then use their experience to recommend the best course of action for you to take with your child.

Question #3: Does it increase aggressiveness?
Absolutely not! Your child will be taught from the first lesson that a true "Tae Kwon Do kid" never misuses their martial arts skills. Throughout their training, they will be reminded that being physically and mentally tough doesn't allow one to be tough with others. Instead, Tae Kwon Do students are expected to be humble, courteous, respectful and careful about when and where they practice their skills. Our instructors will continually educate your child that Tae Kwon Do is a form of exercise and self improvement, not a tool for bullying or intimidation.

Now that you understand the basics, let's examine some of the benefits that Tae Kwon Do training can give your child.

Tae Kwon Do is Great for Physical Fitness
Great for FitnessIf you are concerned that your child could use more physical activity, then you're not alone. Many of today's kids spend hours in front of TV's, video games, and computer screens. As a result, few children get the level of activity they need to get and stay healthy.

Tae Kwon Do can provide a much-needed physical boost. Kids of all ages improve their balance, coordination and motor skills. They also improve flexibility, strength and endurance, skills that will help them in other sports and make them more confident in their abilities.

Best of all, Tae Kwon Do is a fun way to get in shape. Our enthusiastic instructors and high-energy training make learning enjoyable as well as rewarding. Your child will look forward to their classes and be eager to attend their lessons consistently.

Tae Kwon Do is perfect for:

  • Helping young children to develop coordination and balance
  • Motivating sedentary children to participate in exercise
  • Enhancing the strength of children with physical challenges such as low muscle tone
  • Providing athletic children with a way to become even faster, stronger, and more flexible

Tae Kwon Do improves listening skills, concentration, and grades!
Teaching kids to stay focused is one of our specialties. From the very first class, your child will learn the importance of eye contact, posture, and active listening skills that will benefit them not only in Tae Kwon Do but at home, on the playing field, and of course at school. Teachers and parents alike often notice a dramatic difference in children who study the martial arts. Tae Kwon Do students have an easier time staying on task, are more disciplined when it comes to homework and able to control the fidgeting and distracting habits that often take other children off track.

The results are incredible. Your child will listen better at home, handle homework and chores more efficiently, and put more focus and effort into their schoolwork. Many children also begin receiving better grades.

Focus gained at Tae Kwon Do will:

  • Help hyper-active kids to settle down
  • Provide children with attention-deficit disorder (ADD) the ability to focus and concentrate
  • Enable students to improve their memory and study habits
  • Teach self-control to children with a temper

Tae Kwon Do will boost your child's self-esteem and self-confidence to new heights!
Tae Kwon Do will provide your child with plenty of challenges and the tools to overcome them. You’ll be amazed at the difference just a few months of lessons will make in the way your child will feel about themselves and their abilities.

The secret is in our use of positive recognition. Our staff use plenty of praise and positive feedback in every class to encourage students and to motivate effort. Our belt system gives students mini-goals to strive for and teaches kids the power of goal-setting. Special events such as belt testing, board breaking, and tournaments give students an opportunity to perform in front of others, thus enhancing their self confidence and self-esteem.

With the powerful self-confidence Tae Kwon Do will give your child, they will:

  • Overcome shyness
  • Be able to resist negative peer pressure
  • Stand up to bullies and speak up for themselves
  • Raise their hand in school and volunteer their opinion
  • Be more comfortable with meeting new people

I'm happy to share with you some comments provided by satisfied students:

ChristofGreetings, my name is Christof. I am a young adolescent who has arthrogryposis. This condition is characterized by overall muscle weakness and a small range of motion in the upper and lower limbs. Fortunately, my condition can and has gotten better by practicing Tae Kwon Do. I have been training at U.S. Tae Kwon Do for over a year now and steadily continue to make progress. Thanks to Tae Kwon Do, I have improved range of motion, balance and agility. The teachers are considerate of my ability and permit me to set my own goals. In addition, the students are amiable and cordial.

Tae Kwon Do is more than just exercise. It is an enjoyable sport. It is a whole class working together as a team, strengthening and assisting each other. It is a chance to encourage and be encouraged. It is a time to get away from school and work.

I would recommend Tae Kwon Do to most anyone, including the physically challenged. A beginner does not have to be physically fit or execute the forms perfectly the first time. All Tae Kwon Do requires is that you do your best and enjoy yourself.

By now I'm sure that you are interested in trying out Tae Kwon Do for your child. The best way to do that is through our Trail Program. Please take a moment to contact us today. We will be glad to help you.
